Our SANDLOT baseball program is a unique recreational experience. We do not follow a typical league format. It will be a development-focused, play-driven program designed to introduce young players to baseball through creativity, adaptability, and joy. The program emphasizes skill growth, game understanding, and confidence before formal competition. Phase One: Indoor Development & Small-Sided Play (APRIL AND FIRST WEEK OF MAY) The season begins indoors, where players build foundational skills and learn the rhythms of baseball through small-sided, high-engagement games. Using formats like Wiffle Ball, Town Ball, and other baseball-inspired games, players: Develop throwing, catching, hitting, and movement skills Learn spacing, decision-making, and teamwork Experience baseball as an evolving game, not just a set of rules Games are fast, playful, and intentionally flexible, keeping everyone involved and learning through action. Phase Two: Outdoor Pickup-Style Baseball (MID-MAY TO JUNE - TUESDAY OR THURSDAY NIGHTS) As the season moves outdoors, play shifts to instructor-led pickup baseball games. These games blend coach-pitch and player-pitch, with rules and formats adapted to the group’s abilities. As players grow, the game grows with them: Rules evolve based on skill and confidence Instruction happens in the flow of play Emphasis remains on participation, learning, and love of the game Rather than forcing players into a fixed version of baseball, the program lets baseball meet the players where they are. Phase Three: Baseball Finale (JUNE 26/27) We end the season with a final celebratory game that will reward the kids for their hard work with a special finale (and rewards). Minor Division: Ages 7–10 Major Division: Ages 9–11 Divisions reflect both age and skill level, allowing for overlap and flexibility so players are consistently challenged but never overwhelmed. At its core, SANDLOT Baseball is not about perfect mechanics or rigid competition.Season Structure
